This category highlights the scenes in and around the Havana’s Revolution Square (Plaza de la Revolucion) on the third of February, 2006. That evening a ceremony (attended by roughly 200,000 people) was held to present the UNESCO Jose Marti International Award to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Marti was Cuba’s independence fighter and the award goes to an individual who has "contributed to the struggle for liberty in Latin America."

Considering the seemingly grave and debilitating illness that has befallen Cuban leader Fidel Castro (that evening’s Master of Ceremonies), the photos of him in this section could very well illustrate one of his final public speeches.
